Job Summary

This Lead Engineer invests in the future of Southwests People in their work supporting the repair, modification, and troubleshooting of specialist aircraft, engines, and components of Southwests all-Boeing fleet. This role will work collaboratively with internal Technical Operations Team and external vendors, suppliers, and partners in order to manage damage tolerance requirements, satisfy regulatory requirements, and more with Safety always as our number one priority.     Responsibilities
    • Evaluate and process manufacturers service documents (Service Bulletins, Service Letters, etc.), regulatory requirements (Airworthiness Directives, Notice of Proposed Rule Making, Code of Federal Regulations, etc.
    • Provide guidance and expertise in development and substantiation of in-house repairs and modifications for implementation into the SWA maintenance program
    • Resolve and substantiate escalated Reliability improvements through research, root-cause analysis and implementation through corrective action plans
    • Act as a subject matter expert in their assigned areas of responsibility, and has working knowledge of activities of their Team Members.
    • Provides mentorship and leadership to the Team and may include training new Employees.
    • Manage assigned, often complex and diverse projects, to ensure success and timeliness of deliverables (e.g. scheduling, technical risk oversight, deliverables tracking)
    • Oversees risk assessments and leads the development and implementation of risk mitigation programs
    • Facilitate decision-making on the Team and provide process and technical guidance to others.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Employees Leaders and can assume the duties of the Engineering Manager as delegate
    • Skilled in communicating effectively on behalf of their Engineering Team
    • Review and approve Engineering products such as Engineering Orders, Drawings, Reports, Publication changes, etc.
    • May perform other job duties as directed by Leader

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    • Extensive knowledge of FAR&39;s with a strong emphasis on Part 25 requirements and Part 121 operations
    • Expert knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology, including applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various airline support services
    • Knowledge of design techniques, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, drawings, and models
    • Skilled in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems
    • Skilled in identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions
    • Skilled in collecting, organizing, visualizing and assimilating data, including turning raw data into meaningful information using data-oriented programs and visualization software
    • Ability to direct and organize activities and deliver high quality results to meet or exceed targets and deadlines
    • Ability to apply previous experience to address complex problems and drive to a high quality resolution maintaining compliance to all regulatory requirements
    • Ability to listen to, understand, and communicate ideas presented in writing and/or in speaking with others
    • Ability to work well with others as part of a Team and work well under pressure with scheduled timelines
    Education
    • Required: High School Diploma or GED

    Experience
    • Expert level experience, expansive and far reaching knowledge in:
      • Airline/OEM/MRO Engineering
    • Preferred: Knowledge of Maintenix (Mxi) or similar maintenance systems

    Licensing/Certification
    • N/A

    • Ability to perform work duties from [limited space work station/desk/office area] for extended periods of time
    • Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
    • Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job

    Other Qualifications
    • Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines
    • Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
    • Must be at least 18 years of age
    • Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines

    Pay & Benefits:

    Competitive market salary from $138,800 per year to $154,200 per year* depending on qualifications and experience. For eligible Leadership and individual contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities are available and awarded at the discretion of the Company.
