Job Summary
As a Senior System Engineer on the Crew Scheduling & Recovery Systems Team, youll play a pivotal role in keeping Southwest Airlines running smoothly and efficiently. This position isnt just about building and maintaining systems, its about leading innovation, mentoring others, and ensuring our technology solutions are reliable, integrated, and ready to support our People and Customers. By guiding Teams, solving complex challenges, and partnering with vendors to deliver immediate solutions, youll help safeguard the operational backbone that keeps our flights on time and our Crews supported. Your work directly contributes to Southwests mission of connecting people to whats important in their lives through friendly, reliable, and low-cost air travel.
This Dallas-based role is offered as a remote workplace position, which may require onsite presence / travel for trainings, meetings, conferences, etc. Outside of those required visits, the majority of your working time may be spent in an approved remote location within the Dallas - Fort Worth area.

Responsibilities
Oversee vendor management, partner governance, and oversight to deploy systems that are complete, designed and managed over life cycles
Identify problems proactively, plan solutions, recommend software and systems, and coordinate developments in an orderly manner to meet business requirements
Monitor and test performance and capacity for potential bottlenecks, identify possible solutions, and work with partners to implement fixes
Provide innovative solutions to proactively ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability in order to resolve escalations of high complexity
Create the platform strategy and road map in collaboration with Enterprise Architecture
Maintain awareness of technology trends in area of responsibility and makes appropriate recommendations
Meet commitments and deliverables as related to leading projects and or project oversight
Develop and execute against solution strategies and business plans that support business expansion
Maintain and administer computer and data networks and related computing environments including computer hardware, systems software, applications software, and all configurations
Promotes adherence to integrated test strategy requirements and quality standards using test driven development principles
May perform other job duties as directed by Employee&39;s Leaders
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to analyze and resolve problems of high complexity
Expert knowledge of hardware components, systems, software, and networking technologies
Ability to complete and train others to perform troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, solution development, and implementation within specific technology areas
Skilled in expert partnering, negotiation, and communication in working with Business Customers and Technology support
Expert knowledge of systems development methodologies, practices, concepts, and technologies
Skilled in diagnosing, troubleshooting, and resolving hardware, software, or other network and system problems, and replacing defective components when necessary
Ability to mentor and lead Engineers
Ability to develop, present, and effectively communicate complex ideas and strategies in both technical and user-friendly language to a variety of audiences
Skilled in excellent project management and analytical/creative problem-solving
Skilled in excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication
Education
Required: High School Diploma or GED
Required: Bachelor&39;s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information systems or similar fields of study or equivalent advanced level experience
Experience
Required: Advanced-level experience, seasoned and specialized knowledge in system engineering
Preferred: Experience in Observability Engineering, Grafana, Kubernetes, Cloud Infrastructure, Release Infrastructure Management, Technical acumen for Root cause analysis, Gitlab, and Code Merges.
Physical Abilities
Ability to perform work duties from limited space work station/desk/office area for extended periods of time
Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job
Other Qualifications
Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines
Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
Must be at least 18 years of age
Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines
Must be able to travel and /or attend Company and non-Company facilities and remote locations such as remote-based offices as necessary
Pay & Benefits
Competitive market salary from $138,800 - $154,200 per year* depending on qualifications and experience. For eligible Leadership and individual contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities are available and awarded at the discretion of the company.
