General Machinist Trainee will be enrolled in a training program to equip individuals with the skills to operate machinery and manufacture precision metal parts, often involving hands-on training in manual and CNC machining techniques. The trainee program will consist of 9 months of classroom training and 3 months of on-the-job machining training. At the conclusion of the program, all trainees are eligible to receive a machining certificate. Upon receiving a certificate, trainees must successfully pass a machinist assessment and will be converted to a General Machinist position.
• Attend 9-month general machinist classroom training followed by 3-month on-the-job training. Successful trainees will obtain a certificate in machining at the completion of the program. Upon receiving a certificate, trainees must successfully pass a machinist assessment and will be converted to a General Machinist.• Machining Techniques: Operate various machines such as lathes, mills, and CNC equipment to produce metal parts.• Blueprint Reading: Interpret blueprints and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.• CNC Programming: Programming and setting up CNC lathes and mills.• Safety: Demonstrate production floor safety and proper handling of machinery and tools.• Inspection Methods: Demonstrate skills in inspecting parts for accuracy and quality.• Metallurgy: Understand the properties of different metals and how they react to machining processes.• Lean Manufacturing Principles: Work in environment to incorporate Six Sigma, 5S, Lean, and TPM to improve efficiency and quality.• Work holding Principles: Demonstrate ability to secure parts properly during machining.• Perform machine language editing.• Utilizes holding devices, jigs, fixtures, accessories, measuring instruments, and cutting tools necessary to the performance of the task.• Works from prints.• Uses all necessary tools, fixtures and gages and where required.• Responsible for checking produced parts to standards furnished for the operation.• Required to do rework and perform in-process checks for accuracy. • Perform in-process inspection.
• US Citizenship, able to obtain and maintain US DOE Q level security clearance• High School Diploma or GED• Ability to work any shift• Machine Tool Technology courses from local High Schools or Vocational Tech Programs (completion by May 31, 2025)
