Position Summary:

Inventory lead in a team logistics environment, responsible for performing a variety of product support duties of moderate scope and complexity following well defined procedures and processes in one or more of the following functions: inventory.

Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

  • Assigns daily tasks, shares team performance and customer expectations, and provides technical and or process direction to a group of team members.  Assists team leaders in meeting team production results as well as team and division objectives.  Supports an environment of efficiency, quality, and customer satisfaction.
  • Assists in facilitating team problem solving and team meetings. 
  • May be required to assist and/or conduct training.
  • Ensures that safety, policies, and procedures are followed (i.e. breaks, lunches, overtime, safety glasses, etc.) 
  • Helps to ensure team achieves results, meets goals, and follows up promptly on action items and requests, which may include material availability.  Tracks the productivity of the team on the Team Improvement Board.
  • Reviews discrepancies, takes corrective action, recommends alternative methods, and provides constructive feedback to the team.  Follows up to ensure corrective action has been implemented 
  • Ensures the team follows procedures and instructions to promote and ensure quality products.
  • Facilitates the distribution of resources/people to ensure that all work centers within the area are appropriately covered.  Assists in determining the need for overtime.
  • Facilitates internal and external audits of the area. 
  • May be required to fill-in for other group leaders as necessary.
  • May attend various meetings on behalf of the team leader.
  • Assists in determining the skill level of everyone on the team and provides/coordinates development/training to increase team members’ job knowledge and abilities.
  • Provides input on reviews, development plans, and goal setting.
  • Assists team leader with follow up to ensure that development goals are achieved.
  • Assists team leader in counseling team members as appropriate/required.
  • Ensures 5s participation and daily housekeeping activities.
  • Other duties as required to assist the team leader.

Secondary Responsibilities/Non-Essential Functions:

  • Maintains appropriate knowledge and ability levels to efficiently perform all assigned work and utilizes this knowledge base to become proficient on new/unfamiliar assignments
  • May be required to assist in sub-assembly area.
  • Observes all company policies and procedures, including safety rules, and maintains a clean and orderly work area.  Maintains a satisfactory high level of performance.
  • Actively participates in lean/continuous initiatives by identifying and providing suggestions on areas for improvement. Applies lean concepts and tools in work areas.
  • Receive material, check and identify parts by type or part number. 
  • Prepare parts for storage and place stock in proper location as directed.   
  • Perform cycle inventory count. 
  • Maintain and update inventory locations in CICS.

Qualifications (relevant experience, education and training):

  1. Requires high school diploma or equivalent and six years related product support experience or equivalent
  2. Demonstrates leadership skills and the ability to mentor and coach team members.
  3. Demonstrates professional behavior, good business judgment, and strong team interaction skills. Provides motivation and enthusiasm in functional area and reinforces individual and group accomplishments.
  4. Encourages and is receptive to suggestions and new ideas.  Recommends new techniques, systems, and procedures.
  5. Provides clear, concise instruction.  Assists in resolving technical questions, as well as team member concerns/issues. Guides team members in the decision-making process.
  6. Thorough knowledge of policies, procedures and systems in several functional areas and ability to effectively troubleshoot problem situations.
  7. Able to implement and effectively apply lean/continuous improvement initiatives.
  8. Able to effectively demonstrates team member competencies and participates in goal setting, performance feedback, and self-development activities.
  9. Must be proficient in computer terminal operations and possess basic knowledge of MS Office. 
  10. May be required to operate moving equipment and saw equipment and meet OSHA safety qualifications.

Typical Mental and Physical Demands:

The person in this position needs to frequently move about inside the plant to prepare parts for shipment, storage, fill orders, count inventory, and move materials.  The team member frequently operates computers and office productivity machinery; occasionally ascends/descends a ladder to retrieve or store parts or materials; and frequently moves materials weighing up to 50 lbs.  Frequently is exposed to noise, dust, gas and fumes and works near hazardous equipment or machinery.
