Job Summary:
The Ground Support Equipment Mechanic operates and drives all types of aviation ground support equipment, both motorized and non-motorized. This role involves conducting regular inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs on a variety of ground support equipment, ensuring equipment remains in optimal working condition.
Key Responsibilities:
• Operate and drive various types of aviation ground support equipment, including tow tractors, diesel engines, generators, air conditioning units, and maintenance stands
• Conduct regular inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs on ground support equipment
• Perform scheduled maintenance tasks, including fluid changes, filter replacements, belt adjustments, and tire rotations
• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in accordance with manufacturer guidelines, industry standards, and safety regulations
• Overhaul and rebuild engines, transmissions, and other major components to ensure optimal performance and longevity
• Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair activities, including work orders, parts used, and hours spent on each task
• Coordinate with program teams to prioritize and complete repair jobs in a timely manner to minimize equipment downtime
• Maintain a clean and organized workshop, ensuring all tools, equipment, and parts are properly stored and readily accessible
• Stay updated on the latest industry trends, technological advancements, and regulatory requirements related to ground support equipment maintenance and repair
• Adhere to all safety procedures and protocols to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and your colleagues
• Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and external vendors to coordinate repairs, procure parts, and resolve technical issues
• Fuel equipment as necessary, following all safety and environmental requirements
• Perform other duties as assigned
Required Skills/Abilities:
• Proficient in using hand tools, power tools, and test equipment for repairing ground support vehicles and equipment
• Ability to cross-train on required equipment and maintain the equipment under various programs
• Capable of training personnel on the safety and proper use of ground support vehicles and equipment
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to read and understand repair manuals for various types of ground support vehicles and equipment
• Excellent mechanical repair skills with experience in military standard maintenance practices
• Ability to follow instructions and work independently
Basic Qualifications:
• Valid drivers license with a clean driving record
• At least five (5) years of hands-on experience as a Ground Support Equipment Mechanic, preferably in the aviation industry, performing inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs to aircraft-powered and non-powered support equipment
• Knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations and a commitment to maintaining a safe work environment
• Ability to obtain and maintain security clearances and certifications as required by onsite programs
• Proficient in using maintenance management systems and software for record-keeping and inventory management
• Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required
• Completion of a formal training program in automotive or heavy equipment mechanics, or equivalent work experience
• Ability to lift, pull, or push equipment weighing over 50 lbs.
• Willingness to work with hazardous materials as required by the job
• Ability to safely operate a forklift, crane, and manlifts
• Ability to crawl under, climb over, and push equipment to perform repairs
• Physical ability to bend, stoop, kneel, stand for prolonged periods, and climb steps, ladders, and/or service stands
• Willingness to travel when necessary to support program requirements
• High school diploma or GED equivalent
