As a Senior Electrical Technician, you will help fulfil this mission by managing our power electronics research laboratory and facilitating the assembly and testing of advanced power electronics prototypes, and you will do so in a collaborative environment. The team are an international group

with great talent who are passionate and knowledgeable about power electronics.                                      

And no, you don’t need to come from aerospace to work in our Electrical Systems team. We can work with your power electronics skills and give you an applied background in aerospace systems and propulsion architectures.

We seek candidates with proven research credentials in the power electronics domain to join the Electrical Systems discipline for Collins Aerospace Applied Research and Technology in Cork, Ireland.

Key Job Responsibilities 

The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary and cooperative team, and will be expected to: 

  • Manage the scheduling, inventory, calibration, and repair of laboratory equipment, tools, and resources. 

  • Perform environmental health, and safety assessments on laboratory projects and ensure the laboratory meets the highest level of safety and compliance. 

  •  Fabricate and assemble power electronic assemblies and test setups. 

  • Perform electrical and functional testing of power electronic prototypes. 

  • Build and modify printed circuit board assemblies. 

  • Oversee laboratory upgrades and improvements and make recommendations for future improvements. 

 

Qualifications and required experience/skills 

  • Associate/ordinary bachelor degree or electrical vocational training certification (or equivalent) with 4 years of relevant experience.  

  • Experience working with high-voltage (up to 1 kVdc) and kW-class electrical circuits and rotating machines. 

  • Previous experience and/or interest in learning about environmental health and safety measures in an experimental research facility. 

  • Knowledge in reading assembly drawings, schematics, engineering specifications, and circuit operation. 

  • Applied knowledge in circuit board soldering, wire harness fabrication, and mechanical assembly. 

  • Motivated self-starter with a strong enthusiasm to learn, adapt to new challenges and contribute. 

  • Well-organized and has excellent interpersonal and communication skills to succeed in international teams.
