Position: Painter – Tech III
Reports To: Director of Operations
Status: Non-Exempt
Shift: 1st Shift: Monday – Friday, 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM
Pay Range: $20.50 - $30.00
BASIC WORKER FUNCTION:
Prepares and paints surfaces of helicopters, helicopter parts, or other products according to specifications, using brushes, spray guns, and related painting equipment.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF
TASKS:
- Prepares surfaces for painting; may remove old paint from helicopters using paint remover and scraper.
- Implements proper usage of painting equipment, including brushes, siphon guns, and HVLP guns.
- Under instruction from Finishing Painter, lays out and paints stripes, insignia, identifying letters, and numerals on helicopter surfaces or other products.
- Performs final touch-up work as needed.
- Operates sandblast equipment as required.
- Maintains painting equipment and air masks.
- Performs minor body work and putty fiberglass composites.
- Buffs finished paint surfaces.
- Trains other workers and serves as a consultation resource.
- Observes all safety regulations.
- Performs other duties as required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Minimum of 5 years automotive painting experience.
- Knowledge of principles and techniques of spray, brush, and dip painting, including surface preparation.
- Knowledge of, and ability to apply, various types of urethane finishes using spray and brush methods.
- Ability to read and interpret specifications and paint scheme designs.
- Ability to mix paint according to instructions.
- Ability to mask surfaces of helicopters or other products prior to painting.
- Ability to adjust spray painting equipment.
- Ability to operate sandblast equipment.
- Ability to apply shop mathematics.
- High attention to detail.
- Must meet personal tool requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED.
- Experience with HVLP spray systems and urethane finishes.
- Knowledge of masking, sanding, stripping, and finishing.
- Can read blueprints and technical specifications.
- Knows safety rules for painting and chemicals.
- Able to work alone and solve problems.
- Aerospace experience is a plus.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Stand for long periods, bend, kneel, crouch, and reach often.
- Lift up to 50 lbs occasionally.
- Wear respirators and PPE for long periods.
- Work in confined spaces and on elevated areas.
- Do repetitive hand and arm movements.
- See well enough to distinguish colors and surface flaws.
- Work safely around paint fumes, dust, noise, and changing temperatures.
